A Taste of Chicago is our signature event. This is when we share with Los Angeles an authentic night of Deep House Music the way we have known it to be while growing up in Chicago - the birthplace of House Music. On October 29th, we take it back to the foundation with the one and only TERRY HUNTER bangin’ CHICAGO HOUSE AND DISCO CLASSICS ALL NIGHT LONG!!!

Dubspot, The Rhythm Section, and NextAid Present
Funk Aid For Africa
Record Release Party and Fundraiser
At The Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica
Friday, October 16, 2009

LOS ANGELES, CA - On Friday, October 16, 2009, Dubspot, and The Rhythm Section, will join NextAid to host a Funk Aid for Africa record release party to raise awareness and funds for African children affected by the AIDS crisis. The Funk Aid for Africa project is the first in a series of Dubspot-produced benefit compilations to raise funds for worthwhile causes by harnessing the positive power of music. The upcoming party will feature DJ sets by Glenn Red, Jeremy Sole, J-Boogie, DJ OBaH and live performances by Simple Citizens and Pleasuremaker at The Dakota Lounge (formerly Temple Bar), located at 1026 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401. The night begins at 8:00pm. Admission is $12 ($20 for admission + CD). Patrons must be 21 or older to attend. For more information on the venue please call 310-393-8200 or visit http://www.dakotalounge.com. For more information on the CD and event please visit http://www.funkaid.com and http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=130381899824&ref=ts

An inspired collage of funk, soul, and Latin tunes created by DJ OBaH, Funk Aid for Africa features songs by twenty different artists including Ticklah, Ursula Rucker, King Britt, Chico Mann, The Lions, and Ocote Soul Sounds. The CD has been well received by the music community, both for its motives and its quality. Bruce Tantum of Time Out NY says, “The mix is a stone-cold funkfest, taking in Latin and African rhythms, soulful house, disco and dub, all mixed in a creatively nonlinear fashion.”

Funk Aid For Africa track listing:

1. Ocote Soul Sounds – ‘Contra El Sol’ / ESL Records

2. The Lions – ‘Jungle Struttin’ / Ubiquity Records

3. The Pimps Of Joytime – ‘San Francisco Bound’ (Remix By DJ OBaH) / Wonderwheel Recordings

4. DJ Kiva – ‘A Walk In Broken Shade’ Feat. Afra Behn

5. Dario Boente & Huge In Japan – ‘Pasado Pisado’

6. Amayo’s Fu-Arkist-Ra – ‘Fist Of Flowers’

8. Tm Juke And The Jack Baker Trio – ‘Party Favours’ Feat. Gecko Turner / Tru Thoughts Recordings

9. Nappy G – ‘Habanaha’

10. Ursula Rucker – ‘Electric Santeria’ (Remix By King Britt) / Five Six Media

11. Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra – ‘Sabroso’ (Remix By Sabo & Zeb)

12. The Pleasuremaker Band – ‘What We Came’

13. 7 Miles Per Hour Band – ‘Latin Freak’ / Kay-Dee Records

15. Chico Mann – ‘Ease On Out’

16. J Boogie’s Dubtronic Science – ‘Together’ Feat. Jennifer Johns / Om Records

17. Sbirrofunk – ‘Nostalgicdreamsong’

18. Daisuke Naito – ‘Leopard’

19. Meta & The Cornerstones – ‘Hasta La Vista’ / 54 Soundz Llc

20. El Pueblo – ‘Ina Funky Dub’

“The icing on the cake is knowing that this CD is going to benefit those who could really use a helping hand, thanks to NextAid. I commend all of the artists/groups for supporting NextAid’s cause by graciously donating their amazing music to this mix,” says DJ OBaH.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of this compilation are going directly to charity. These funds will aid in the construction of a modest ‘green’ sports facility at the Youth With A Vision environmental community center in South Africa. The sports facility will be part of the already 10+ structures serving as a beacon of hope in a community devastated by poverty and AIDS, as well as a place where resources are being concentrated, aid efficiently distributed, and youth inspired to reach their potential.
