An annual effort benefiting select organizations that promote art & music education in Los Angeles County.
So it’s that time of year again when the community of Los Angeles finds solidarity in our 10th annual benefit Thanks Givends to raise awareness and donations for important community arts programs and individuals in need.
Every year we choose two recipients, one always being The Mar Vista Family Center, which is where our beloved DJ Dusk was a counselor and mentor and this year we have chosen Ma Dukes as the other beneficiary.
It came to our attention through close family and friends that Ma Dukes, aka Maureen Yancey, aka J Dilla’s mother has been going through some difficult hardships. She also has Lupus, which is the disease that J Dilla eventually succumbed to. For unfortunate legal reasons, she has not benefited from J Dilla’s musical legacy that he left behind and any sort of financial assistance will go along way to helping her and his family.
Both Dj Dusk and J Dilla were voices of change and we proved to ourselves on Nov.4th that when unified, we as a community can make surmountable changes together. Dilla was the creator and Dusk was the prophet and we were and still are congregation for their love and now is our opportunity to reciprocate this love as we keep building towards this perfect union.vent Information:
