Aladeen - Reggae, World & Traditional Sudanese Music

Born Aladeen Abdul in the city of Woldia in the province of Welegga in Ethiopia.
moved to Sudan at the age of four due to political instability in Ethiopia. Though his professional career in music started 12 years ago, Aladeen started singing at the age of four in his native languages (these included Amharic and later Arabic.) These early influences are the core structures, which enabled him in developing his universal style. Although Aladeen came to the US as a teen, through hard work and determination he was able to combine both of his early musical influences with the sounds of Reggae and World Beat. His major influences of these newly introduced sounds include Bob Marley, Third World, Dennis Brown and Marvin Gaye to name a few.

Aladeen sings and writes songs that appeal to the young and the old by combining club friendly and spiritually motivating music. He writes and composes most of his music. He plays guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. He can be best described as an infusion of Roots Reggae, R&B, African music and jazz.

Aladeen maintains a vision to bring his people together through music and spiritual upliftment, which can be felt in his live performances. Dynamic, energetic and sincere are a few words that have been used when describing Aladeen’s performances. Some of his previous performances include the 2002 annual Bob Marley Day Festival along side Junior P and General Jah-Mikey both of whom Aladeen helped in producing material on their CD’s. He also toured the US and Ethiopia with Maxi Priest as an opening act. He played at the Reggae Sunsplash with his band,“African Ambassa.” Although Aladeen’s first CD is in the works, he has cultivated a strong fan base in Southern California and other parts of the U.S. through extensive club performances.

Aladeen believes in hard work, persistence and determination, a quality that echoes in one of his songs, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” Aladeen is optimistic about his future in music and looks forward to use his talents to uplift the youth of today and encourage unity throughout Ethiopia and the rest of Africa in particular and the world in general. He believes that music is the greatest weapon in fighting spiritual division and injustice throughout the world “one year at a time.”

Saturday, October 18th Wonder-Full Spinna, Bobbito & Rashida

Saturday, October 18th Wonder-Full
Wonder-Full w/ DJ Spinna & Bobbito

A Tribute To The Wonder Of Stevie

Spinning all Stevie Exclusives, Covers, Samples & Remixes

Opening set by DJ Rashida

Live Screenprinting by Hit&Run

Wonder-Full is a yearly event dedicated to the great Stevie Wonder.  Featuring DJ Spinna and Bobbito, two of New York City’s most respected DJ/Taste makers, spinning all Stevie exclusives, covers, samples & remixes.
Also featuring DJ Rashida, one of LA’s most talented mixers and part of Prince’s live group.
Making its third trip to LA , Wonder-Full has united Angelenos and travelers alike, lending to one of the most energetic events this city has ever experienced.  Attendees ranged from Prince to Jude Law, along with LA’s top taste makers and music fans, for a crowd of 1,200 smiling faces.

DJ Spinna (NYC)
DJ Spinna is something of an anomaly in music. A humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields. A steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive vinyl library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (Funk, Soul and Jazz), foundation (Hip-Hop) and future (Electronic/Dance music) with no restraints.
Regarded as one of the most versatile and talented producers/remixers/DJs in today’s musical arena. he has produced numerous tracks and remixes for notable artists such as Michael Jackson, De La Soul, Mary J. Blige, Mos Def, Eminem, George Michael & Stevie Wonder.

Bobbito AKA Kool Bob Love (NYC)
The toughest question anyone can ask Bobbito Garcia is “What do you do?” There might be ten answers! He is the Editor In Chief of Bounce: From the Playground b-ball magazine, an accomplished Vibe magazine columnist, author of “Where’d You Get Those? NYC’s Sneaker Culture 1960-1987.” He is a world-class club DJ.  And one half of the WKCR 89.9 Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show, voted the ‘Best Hip Hop Radio Show of All-Time’ by The Source Magazine.  He is a basketball performer at NBA halftime shows. He is the anouncer for EA Sports’ “NBA Street” video game and for ESPN 2’s “It’s the Shoes” series. Not done yet… He is a feature film actor and music consultant… A true modern day renaissance man.

DJ Rashida (LA)
As official DJ for His Purple Majesty, Prince, Rashida has been warming up crowds at his much-hyped performances over the last four years. When not djing around the world, Rashida can be heard spinning at any one of her many residences.  Most notably on MTV’s Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew.

THE PROMOTER:
For the last 15 years Footlong Development has been producing and promoting events throughout Los Angeles.  Most recently, the Wonder-Full and Soul Slam parties.  These yearly sold out events have been a major part of LA’s soul revival.

LIVE SCREENPRINTING:
HIT+RUN was created in 2005 by Southern California artists Brandy Flower and Mike Crivello. A product of the contagious enthusiasm they had seen from small silkscreening parties in their homes, HIT+RUNʼs live T-shirt screenprinting events quickly grew, now hosted at music festivals and a variety of happenings around the world. At each HIT+RUN event, Flower and Crivello act as curators, selecting from their network of artists to compile a collection of exclusive single-color silkscreen designs. Guests personally select their own combination and placement of the designs, each graphic solely available during the single night exhibitions. Party goers interact in the screenprinting process on-site with the HIT+RUN CREW to create one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
