FRANKIE KNUCKLES
Frankie Knuckles is a legendary DJ, record producer, and remix artist.
Dubbed “The Godfather of House” by the kids that that hung out at “The Warehouse” nightclub
where he reigned the decks in the late 70s, Frankie played a significant role in developing
the genre as a Chicago DJ in the 1980s and also helped to popularize house in the 1990s
through his production and remix work. Frankie Knuckles was signed to Def Mix Productions in 1987,
and his high profile brought him to the attention of Virgin Records in 1990, where he delivered
“Beyond the Mix” and “Welcome to the Real World.” Frankie’s single “The Whistle Song,”
crossed into pop culture in 1992 and was introduced into the mainstream via Nestea’s Ice tea commercial
made for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Frankie won the first Grammy Award for Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical in 1997. And in 2005, Knuckles was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his achievements as a DJ. As Def Mix turns 20, Knuckles is preparing to celebrate this milestone with David Morales, Satoshi Tomiie, Hector Romero and Judy Weinstein. The celebration includes a world tour and several special events
in addition to his normal tour and recording obligations
