“The Episodes E.P.” is a perfect collection of future classic material.

This already has been a remarkable year for the Golden Child of dance music. Already being highly praised for his recent ‘Mix The Vibe’ compilation he just keeps dropping one hit after another onto the dance floor. Although, Quentin is known for being a master of what he likes to call ‘re-productions’, he still manages to turn out his own original productions into future classics.

“The Episodes E.P.” is a perfect collection of future classic material. Starting off with “EP #5” a big room (or back room) track that churns and grinds out of your speakers working the dance floor into a dark frenzy, “Slow Velocity” is a come-together-in-every-nation-and-dance track with its heavy Latin percussion. Last up is “EP #6” a middle eastern infused track with a gorgeous deep groove. Do you already feel the need for the Quentin Harris sound?

Quentin Harris’ DEBUT album

House music is not typically known for carrying a message but the title of Quentin’s album, ‘No Politics’, reflects a desire to rid music of niches, divides and genre boundaries: “I have this analogy – and this belief – that nothing is new. Everything’s been done before – we’re not re-inventing the wheel. I just like all music and what I make just so happens to sound like what it sounds like.” But despite his desire for music to be politics-free Quentin cites his own album as an example of current concerns. “There were disagreements between the American record label and Japan,” he explains. “It’s complicated but it became very political; that’s when I decided the album should be called, ‘No Politics’.” When asked what the album represented for him he enthusiastically declared “No Politics is a small window into my crazy mind. And my mind is only going to get crazier,” he warns. When talking about Quentin it is impossible to overlook his love of the legendary New York club Shelter; it has become a second home to him. It is here that he met the notorious producer Timmy Regisford; an artist and DJ that would provide him with great inspiration. In recent years he’s been experimenting with parties of his own there. “Recently I started a party called ‘Kiss My Black Ass…’ You laugh – that’s what the name was intended to do! I think people take themselves too seriously in music. I just wanted to create a night where people could come as they are; you hear it all the time, ‘Come as you are!’ But no, people were coming to my party really as they were; some girl had a lamp-shade on her head, I was like, ‘Oh, fine.” Hard-working and visionary, Quentin is respected by peers and fans alike. Three new singles are set to be released in the coming year from this album – ‘My Joy’, ‘Joy’ and ‘Can’t Stop’; and though you can never quite tell what Quentin will come up with next, you can always tell, without a doubt, that it’s going to be mind-blowing.

DJ Argyle - Hip Hop, Soul, Funk & House

DJ ARGYLE
(Beathackerz Kollectiv/M-Audio/TopSoiL International/Los Angeles)

contact info:

email argyle.soulpeople

Argyle is what you can call a music treasure hunter with a born passion for vinyl. He is an auditory historian, sound architect and music psychologist. But more than anything, he is a ground breaking (part of the first rock hip hop mix show/Channel Xero on Los Angeles based radio station Power 106 FM, made rare grooves and b-boy breaks regular programming during primetime on Power 106’s Old Skool Show)-cutting-edge (helped found and usher in a unique style of cross genre mixing and programming that has been imitated but never duplicated)-pioneer. Argyle’s foundation and roots are drawn from the purest forms of funk, soul, jazz, rock, Afro-Latin vibes and the Hip Hop this music later inspired. With his Hip-hop foundation intact, Argyle had also catapulted into the future sounds of house, broken beat and many other styles of electronic music. As legend has it Argyle took over the last half-hour of the Old Skool Show, calling his segment Diggin in the Crates, a stint which continued for 6 years. From his radio show other well know DJs and Producers became acquainted with Argyle’s heavy music background and style and sought him out to assist in production and other specialty mix shows. He became a member of the ground breaking Channel Xero mix show (which later became Mass Distortion) playing old rock breaks, and classic rock along w/electronic music, hip hop, and other grooves. A lineup that highlighted DJ Homicide (sugar ray), DJ Lethal (limpbizkit/houseofpain), DJ C-minus (korn) and DJ A.M.’s cameo appearances made this a unique mix show to Los Angeles and the world to this day. Following in these premier rock/hop DJ’s foot-steps, Argyle made the transition from crate-digger to DJ to Performer as he started opening for countless rock acts and DJing side by side with: Jazzy Jeff, Norman Jay, Spiritual South, Vikter Duplaix, Markus Enochson, Lars Berenroth, Scott K., Big Bang, SharpShooters (SureShot/Mr. Supreme), Francisco Aguabella, Ozomatli, Beat Junkies J-Rocc, Mr. Choc, and Rhettmatic, to name only a few. He is the Founder of the Los Angeles based, world renowned music collective, Beathackerz Kollectiv, established in 1999. Not to mention he is now interpreting music for himself under the name TopSoiL International. His original tracks, remixes and re-edits have been supported by taste makers and radio DJ’s across the country. TopSoiL International have produced some of the most DJ sought after re-edits and bootleg dance floor anthems in past years. He currently performs his dj sets as a multimedia set up, infusing both audio and video for a unique dance floor experience. His ever building credibility as a global tastemaker/producer has helped highlight his argyle-styled “big room sound” DJ sets. On any given night you’ll here his aggressive, hybrid, style connecting the dots of all the musical styles he pulls inspiration from, that in a word, can be summed up as ELECTRIC. More then just a name, Argyle is an experience, that you have to see and hear. Accomplishments and lofty aspirations aside, Argyle just wants to groove your ears and funk with your mind in the end.

SUN. APRIL 27th - DJ DUSK SITES & SOUNDS

BENEFIT for MAR VISTA FAMILY CENTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Impact of Local Mentor Spawns Annual Music and Art Festival: Youth Group to Hold 2nd Celebration of Fallen Mentor’s Life with Art and Music Performances
Contact: Joey Bravo, Event Coordinator
Phone: (310) 390-9607
Email: bravoj@marvistafc.org
Los Angeles, CA – The By Youth For Youth (BYFY) group of Mar Vista Family Center (MVFC) will be hosting its 2nd Annual Sights and Sounds of DJ Dusk Art and Music Festival on Sunday April 27th, 2008.  The event will take place from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Mar Vista Family Center, 5075 S. Slauson Ave., Del Rey, CA 90230.
Last April, in its inaugural year, the Sights and Sounds of DJ Dusk Festival celebrated the life of long-time Mar Vista Family Center employee and youth leader, Tarek “DJ Dusk” Captan.  On April 29, 2006, Tarek tragically lost his life and his absence has been felt citywide, especially at Mar Vista Family Center.  Through art and music, Tarek was able to reach wide audiences across the Los Angeles landscape and beyond.  During his ten years of service here at Mar Vista, he was able to empower youth with the tools to seek higher education and social justice.

This celebration, and each one thereafter, will combine Tarek’s passion for music and art with his devotion to youth activism by exposing aspiring artists to veteran performers who believe in using art and music to create positive social change.  With a new youth center under construction, MVFC will be able to serve three times the amount of current youth.  Aside from offering leadership workshops and building communication skills, the new youth center will provide programs in the creative arts, such as dance, music, deejaying, art, video, and photography; an accomplishment Tarek would appreciate.

Since the festival coincides with the much anticipated creative arts programs, the celebration is being utilized to establish a foundation for these programs by raising funds for materials, equipment, software, etc., and accepting monetary and/or equipment donations.

Featured artists include DJ’s Expo, Sake 1 (SF), Daz, Jeremy Sole, Lady Sha, Music Man Miles; live performances by Ray Ricky Rivera, and Raquel Rodriguez; keynote speaker Garth Trinidad (Chocolate City, KCRW) and graciously hosted by Azul 213.  There will be many more dj’s, artists, and attractions such as a DJ workshop in addition to a youth and veteran art exhibit.

The Mar Vista Family Center is a nationally recognized program that creates positive changes through dozens of community programs including By Youth For Youth which promotes individual and social responsibility among youth.  The BYFY program provides positive role models and important leadership development tools for 65 underprivileged youths, ranging in age from 13 to 21.  These youths, in turn, supervise enriching activities for 600 children and preteens who attend programs at MVFC year-round.
