Mar Vista Family Center (Los Angeles, CA)
Founded in 1977 is committed to providing a safe and energetic environment where the youth can harness their skills by focusing on personal growth, education, and community leadership. Within the center, the By Youth For Youth (BYFY) youth group was established as a platform to address solutions to violence afflicting their communities by developing awareness and skill-building programs. Programs include pre-school parent program, art & music classes, after-school tutorial, mural projects, pre-teen and teen leadership, as well as life and job-skills training.
Through its Shared Responsibility Model, Mar Vista Family Center (MVFC) has helped transform a community once filled with urban gang violence, unsafe streets and drug trafficking into a thriving, healthy community and given its residents a safe space to learn, grow and lead.
